The National Payments Corporation of India introduced a new ‘Tap & Pay’ feature for UPI at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026. This launch brings Near Field Communication technology directly to unified payments to streamline everyday digital transactions.

Users can now complete payments by simply tapping their smartphones or compatible devices against a payment terminal. This functionality removes the traditional reliance on scanning QR codes for everyday transactions.

Expanding Digital Payments

The new rollout aligns directly with ongoing efforts by the National Payments Corporation of India to deepen the penetration of digital payments across India. The initiative is designed to offer more intuitive and frictionless user experiences for consumers.
