Banks and other essential services are projected to continue operations during the statewide Karnataka bandh, scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 6 am to 6 pm. This protest, called by the Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha, responds to a water-sharing directive.
The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has mandated Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for a period of 15 days, commencing August 12. Vatal Nagaraj, convener of the Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha, confirmed the protest would proceed, with Bengaluru largely expected to remain unaffected.
August 2026 Bank Holidays Across India
Beyond the Karnataka bandh, several other bank holidays are scheduled across India throughout August 2026. On August 13, banks in Manipur will observe a closure for Patriot Day.
A nationwide bank closure will occur on August 15, a Saturday, marking both Independence Day and Parsi New Year. Subsequently, Tripura banks will be closed on August 19 to commemorate Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur’s birth anniversary.
Later in the month, August 25 will see banks in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh closed for Milad-Un-Nabi, first Onam, and Milad-i-Sherif. The following day, August 26, brings widespread closures across multiple states.
States observing holidays on August 26 include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. These closures are for Id-E-Milad, Baravafat, Milad-un-Nabi, and Thiruvonam.
Finally, on August 28, banks in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh will be closed for Raksha Bandhan. Normal bank timings for public dealing on working days are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
