JSW Energy: ₹4,000 Cr Green Funding Boosts 2030 Target to 30 GW
By Business Desk
JSW Energy secures over ₹4,000 Cr from Axis Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, and NaBFID for green projects, accelerating its 30 GW renewable energy target by 2030.
JSW Energy’s renewable energy subsidiaries have secured over ₹4,000 crore in long-term financing from a consortium of banks and financial institutions. This substantial capital infusion is specifically earmarked to accelerate both ongoing and future green energy initiatives.
Financing Breakdown
The strategic move highlights a preference for bank financing over corporate bond issuances, driven by more competitive pricing and quicker execution. The funding specifics include:
- Axis Bank: Provided ₹2,000 crore for a 15-year term, securing an interest rate below 8%.
- Bank of Maharashtra: Contributed ₹930 crore with a 20-year term, carrying approximately 10% interest.
- National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID): Supplied ₹1,130 crore, also for a 20-year term at around 10% interest.
Driving Renewable Ambitions
These long-term loans, structured for 15 to 20 years with overall interest costs below 9% annually, directly support JSW Energy’s aggressive expansion strategy. The company, a key power-generation division within the JSW Group, is rapidly scaling its clean energy footprint.
As of June, JSW Energy reported an operational capacity of 14.54 GW. The newly secured funds will also facilitate the refinancing of certain existing projects currently under construction, further streamlining its financial operations.
Path to 30 GW by 2030
This financial backing is critical for JSW Energy as it works towards its ambitious target of achieving a total capacity of 30 GW by the year 2030. The strategic deployment of these funds underscores a clear commitment to accelerating India’s transition towards cleaner energy sources and solidifying the company’s position in the renewable sector.
