India’s central government amassed over ₹32 lakh crore in cesses and surcharges in five years, highlighting revenue strategies amid corporate global expansion.

The Indian government has accumulated over ₹32 lakh crore from cesses and surcharges over the last five financial years, as confirmed by the finance ministry. This substantial collection reflects a key aspect of the Centre’s revenue generation strategy.

The total collection from cesses and surcharges reached ₹32 lakh crore. Specifically from cesses, the amount was ₹18.88 lakh crore.

Funds transferred to specific cess and reserve accounts totaled ₹21.38 lakh crore. Cesses are taxes levied for specific purposes, with a portion earmarked for particular funds, ensuring dedicated resources for designated initiatives.

Corporate India’s Expanding Global Footprint

Concurrently, Indian corporations are significantly increasing their overseas direct investments. This strategic move is primarily driven by a desire to acquire strategic assets and access new international markets.

Companies also aim to leverage advanced technologies through these global ventures, enhancing their competitive edge on an international scale.

National Cooperative Organics Expands Reach

In a related development, the National Cooperative Organics Ltd (NCOL), operating under the Ministry of Cooperation, has notably expanded its certified organic products business.

This expansion includes broad collaborations to bolster the organic sector. Agreements were signed with state nodal agencies across 28 states and Union Territories.

NCOL also enlisted 14,550 cooperative societies as members.

Enforcement Directorate’s Bank Fraud Investigations

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Enforcement continues its active investigation into numerous bank fraud cases. These probes fall under the purview of the Prevention of Money-laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA).

The agency is also tracking individuals who have evaded legal proceedings by leaving the country. There are 32 bank fraud cases under active investigation.

A total of 54 accused individuals are currently absconding outside India.

These varied updates underscore ongoing activities across India’s fiscal administration, corporate internationalisation, and regulatory enforcement efforts.
