HDFC’s Dubai branch faces scrutiny after a probe revealed integrity standard failures and regulatory breaches during client onboarding. Deloitte and Kroll also investigated.
HDFC’s branch in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is under scrutiny after a regulatory probe revealed significant lapses in its operations. The investigation found that the branch had failed to meet required integrity standards for a period of five years.
According to the probe, the bank’s own ethics panel identified a high number of regulatory breaches related to client onboarding processes. In addition to the internal review, probes were also conducted by Deloitte and Kroll.
The findings of the Dubai regulator’s probe stand in contrast to statements made by the bank’s CEO, who characterized the issues as technical lapses. The investigation suggests more serious underlying issues related to compliance and ethical standards.
