By Business Desk
Edelweiss Mutual Fund MD Radhika Gupta praises GIFT City’s supportive ecosystem and announces the launch of two new investment funds from the financial hub.
Radhika Gupta, MD and CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund, has affirmed the highly supportive nature of the GIFT City ecosystem. She highlighted its dedication to success despite its nascent stages, coinciding with Edelweiss’s launch of two distinct products from the international financial services center. This strategic move underscores the growing significance of India’s first operational smart city.
Gupta noted that GIFT City represents a significant initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat. She expressed optimism for its growth, drawing a parallel to the mutual fund industry two decades ago, envisioning a similar trajectory.
Edelweiss’s Strategic Product Launches from GIFT City
One product is specifically designed for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), allowing them to invest in India through a multi-manager fund. This offering has already received a positive reception from the target demographic.
The second product facilitates international investments for Indians, initially concentrating on Greater China. Plans are underway to expand its reach to include the US and other Asian markets.
Gupta specifically praised the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) for its remarkable responsiveness. She also acknowledged the highly collaborative environment fostered within the city.
Gauging Future Global Acceptance and Potential
While the initial focus has been on Indian investors, Gupta foresees an increase in global acceptance among foreign investors. She expects this will extend to Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) as GIFT City continues its maturation.
This anticipated growth will materialize as more funds begin to channel foreign investor capital through the burgeoning hub. It signals a crucial phase for the financial center’s global integration.
Gupta conceded that GIFT City is still in its developmental phase when juxtaposed with established financial powerhouses. These include centers like Dubai, London, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
However, she underscored GIFT City’s inherent potential, attributing it to a dynamic ecosystem and robust social infrastructure. This foundation positions it for significant future expansion and influence.
