Claim Unclaimed SBI Dividends: Your Guide to Getting Your Money

By ThePip DeskClaim Unclaimed SBI Dividends: Your Guide to Getting Your Money

Unpaid SBI dividends? Learn how to check and claim your money, whether it’s still with the bank or transferred to the IEPF. Your guide to retrieving forgotten funds.

Finding out you have unclaimed dividends can be a pleasant surprise, but knowing how to retrieve them is key. If you’re an investor with the State Bank of India (SBI) and suspect you have unpaid dividends, there’s a clear process to follow to get your money.

It’s important to remember that dividends left unclaimed for a continuous period of seven years eventually get transferred to the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF). But don’t worry; you can still claim them even after this transfer.

Checking Dividends Still Held by SBI

Your first step is to see if your dividends are still with SBI. The bank offers a dedicated “Unpaid Dividend” search facility on its website to help you with this.

To make a claim for these dividends, you can reach out to Kfin Technologies Limited via email or contact SBI Investor Services directly.

When searching, you’ll typically need to provide your Client ID, your name (first, middle, or last), or your PAN (Permanent Account Number).

If your initial search doesn’t yield results, don’t give up. Try different combinations, such as using your Folio Number and investor first name if your Folio Number and PAN didn’t work initially.

Locating Dividends Transferred to the IEPF

If your dividends have moved to the IEPF, there’s a specific link on the SBI website to help you track them down. This online tool allows you to search for your transferred funds.

You can search by selecting the bank (SBI) and the relevant dividend year. You will also need to input your Folio Number or Client ID.

Additional search options include your first name, PAN, date of birth, a joint holder’s first name, and your PIN code. Use all the information you have to broaden your search.

Claiming Your Refund from the IEPF Authority

The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) is the body responsible for overseeing the IEPF and processing refunds. They handle unclaimed dividends, matured deposits, debentures, and even application money.

You are eligible to claim a refund from the IEPF if you are a shareholder, deposit holder, or their legal heir, and your funds have been unclaimed for seven continuous years.

To initiate a refund, you must apply to the IEPF Authority. This involves submitting webform IEPF-5 along with all the necessary supporting documentation.

Don’t let your hard-earned money sit unclaimed. By following these steps, you can navigate the process of checking for and reclaiming your SBI dividends, ensuring your finances are in order.
