August Energy & Energeia Launch $100M Decarbonization Platform

By Business DeskAugust Energy & Energeia Launch $100M Decarbonization Platform

August Energy and Energeia partner to launch August Energeia, a $100 million platform focused on industrial decarbonization through energy efficiency and renewables.

Singapore-based August Energy and India’s Energeia have officially launched August Energeia, a $100 million platform dedicated to financing and implementing energy-efficiency upgrades and renewable energy systems across commercial and industrial (C&I) facilities.

This strategic partnership aims to accelerate decarbonization efforts within energy-intensive sectors by fundamentally shifting how such projects are funded. It moves away from traditional high-risk capital expenditure (CAPEX) models towards a more accessible, performance-linked operational expenditure (OPEX) approach.

Investment & Scope

  • The $100 million funding commitment establishes August Energeia as a significant player in the sustainable energy infrastructure space.
  • August Energy, an energy-as-a-service (EaaS) infrastructure platform, is contributing the capital, sourced from European, Japanese, and Asian institutional investors.
  • The platform’s scope includes financing and deploying upgrades across diverse energy-intensive systems, such as cooling, heating, steam, compressed air, fuel switching, and motor-driven systems.
  • It will also support the comprehensive deployment of renewable energy systems, specifically solar, wind, and storage solutions.

Addressing Market Barriers

Energeia’s co-founder and CEO, Sookrit Malik, highlighted the critical problem this new model solves. Historically, high upfront costs and rigid procurement mandates have represented substantial barriers to widespread adoption of energy-efficient technologies.

By offering a performance-linked OPEX approach, August Energeia directly removes these financial impediments, allowing businesses to undertake essential decarbonization projects without significant initial investment.

Targeted Decarbonization Across Sectors

The initiative targets a broad spectrum of industries crucial to India’s economic landscape, focusing on those with substantial energy consumption. These include:

  • Pharmaceuticals and Automotive
  • Food and beverages and Chemicals
  • Cement and Steel
  • Hospitality and Health care
  • Data centres, REITs, and Commercial real estate

The platform’s focus on these key sectors underscores a concerted effort to drive sustainable practices where they can yield the most significant environmental and economic impact.
