Indian Startups Advance with Sustainable Hygiene and Food Innovation
Anabio Tech, a deep tech startup, is preparing to launch what it claims is India’s first flushable sanitary pad. This innovation, crafted from plant-based, biodegradable materials, aims to address critical environmental concerns associated with menstrual hygiene product disposal.
Concurrently, Anveshan, a clean-label food brand, has successfully secured Rs 150 crore in a Series B funding round. This significant capital injection is earmarked to scale manufacturing, expand distribution networks, and capitalize on the growing consumer demand for minimally processed and transparent food products.
Anabio Tech Pioneers Sustainable Menstrual Hygiene Solution
Mithun Shah, the founder of Anabio Tech, embarked on an eight-year research journey, culminating in the development of this pioneering product. His efforts involved thousands of product iterations and overcoming challenges, including a devastating lab fire, to create a truly flushable alternative.
The company meticulously engineered every layer of the sanitary pad using exclusively plant-based, biodegradable materials. This rigorous development process led to the filing of two patents, underscoring the novelty and proprietary nature of their technology.
Extensive testing was conducted across hundreds of toilet configurations and over 500 pin codes in India to ensure the product’s flushability and efficacy. This comprehensive validation process confirms the pad’s readiness for market introduction and widespread adoption.
While the broader menstrual hygiene industry has historically focused on comfort and accessibility, Anabio Tech specifically targets the massive challenge of menstrual waste. Consumer studies involving over 2,000 users revealed that a substantial 81% expressed willingness to switch to a flushable alternative, indicating strong market acceptance for the new product.
Anveshan Secures Rs 150 Crore in Series B Funding
Anveshan, a prominent clean-label food brand, successfully closed its Series B funding round, raising Rs 150 crore. The investment was primarily led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, signaling strong investor confidence in the company’s growth trajectory and market position.
The funding round saw participation from a diverse group of investors, including IFC, and notable public figures such as Swiggy co-founder Sriharsha Majety. Existing investors, including Wipro Consumer Care Ventures and Titan Capital Winners Fund, also reaffirmed their commitment, alongside boAt founders Aman Gupta and Sameer Mehta.
Founded in 2020, Anveshan has established itself by offering products like A2 bilona ghee, cold-pressed oils, and raw honey, aligning with its commitment to minimally processed and transparent food items. The company is currently operating at an annualised revenue run rate of Rs 280-300 crore.
The newly acquired capital will be strategically deployed to bolster the company’s manufacturing capabilities and expand its distribution footprint across the country. A significant portion of the investment will also fund product innovation, enhance sourcing infrastructure, and improve quality testing protocols.
Furthermore, Anveshan plans to forge partnerships with micro-entrepreneurs and traditional producers, integrating them into its supply chain. The company has set an ambitious target to cross Rs 1,000 crore in annualised revenue run rate within the next 24-30 months, driven by these strategic initiatives and increased consumer demand.
