Amber to Make Oppo, OnePlus, Realme Phones in India by 2027
By Business Desk
Amber Enterprises India to manufacture Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme smartphones by March 2027, targeting 8 million units annually. A major shift in India’s electronics production.
Amber Enterprises India is poised to commence smartphone production for prominent Chinese brands Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme, with commercial operations expected by March 2027. This strategic move signals a significant and evolving pivot within India’s competitive electronics manufacturing services sector.
The company anticipates trial production to commence by Q4 FY27, with full commercial operations launching in Q1 FY28. This significant partnership with Oppo Mobiles India distinctly underscores a broader, strategic trend among Chinese mobile companies to adopt asset-light manufacturing models within the burgeoning Indian market.
Key Production Targets
- Initial annual output: 8 million units
- Second year target: 15-16 million units
This strategic shift enables these global brands to significantly reduce their direct operational involvement in manufacturing, thereby potentially streamlining their complex Indian market strategies. Reinforcing this trend, Vivo, another prominent brand from the same corporate group, is actively in the process of transferring its manufacturing plant to a specialized joint venture with Dixon Technologies.
Amber’s PCB Business Challenges and Future
Beyond smartphones, Amber’s printed circuit board (PCB) business segment is navigating its own distinct set of challenges. Specifically, rising input costs for copper-clad laminate (CCL) have notably impacted operations, a financial burden the company is actively passing on to its customers to maintain margins.
Looking ahead, Amber Enterprises India has outlined strategic plans to establish its own dedicated CCL plant. This move towards backward integration is projected to be fully operational by the 2029-30 fiscal year, explicitly aiming to mitigate future cost pressures and enhance supply chain resilience.
The collective decision by these major Chinese mobile players to leverage Amber’s established manufacturing capabilities distinctly highlights a growing reliance on local expertise and scale within India. This pivotal development is poised to significantly reshape the competitive landscape for electronics manufacturing across the nation, pointing towards enhanced localization and strategic partnerships that redefine market dynamics.
