Amazon and Future Coupons have settled a 5-year legal dispute for ₹11 crore, ending a protracted battle over Future Retail. Delhi High Court acknowledges resolution.

Future Coupons, a key entity within the promoter group of Future , has finalized a settlement with Amazon, agreeing to pay the e-commerce giant ₹11 crore in damages. This resolution marks the end of a protracted dispute that had been ongoing for more than five years.

The settlement, formalized on March 13, represents a fraction of the ₹105 crore initially awarded by the Singapore International Arbitration Tribunal (SIAC). Following this agreement, the Delhi High Court formally disposed of petitions filed by Future Group challenging the original SIAC award, acknowledging that both parties had reached a resolution.

Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar of the Delhi High Court noted that the matter “stands resolved and the settlement has been formally reduced into a Settlement Agreement of March 13”.

Previously, in June 2025, an SIAC tribunal had directed Future Group to pay ₹23.7 crore in damages to Amazon, in addition to ₹77 crore for legal costs and approximately ₹6 crore for arbitration fees. Future Group had contested these findings in the Delhi High Court.

The initial claim by Amazon sought ₹1,436 crore in damages from the Kishore Biyani-led Future Group. This amount was equivalent to Amazon’s 2019 investment for a 49% stake in Future Coupons, which in turn held a 9.82% stake in Future Retail, granting Amazon indirect rights within the Future Group.

The conflict intensified in 2020 when Future Group announced a deal to sell its retail and allied businesses to Reliance Retail for ₹24,713 crore, intended as a measure to manage pandemic-induced debt and losses. Amazon opposed this deal, initiating legal challenges through the SIAC and various Indian courts.

The dispute led to the temporary suspension of the Competition Commission of India’s approval for Amazon’s investment in Future Group in December 2021. Amidst the escalating legal battles, Reliance ultimately cancelled the proposed ₹24,713 crore deal with Future Group in April 2022.
