Airtel Discontinues Prepaid Plans: Price Hike Up to 16%
By ThePip Desk
Bharti Airtel has removed popular prepaid plans, forcing Indian customers to face price increases of 5% to 16% on remaining options. Explore the changes.
Airtel users, get ready to adjust your monthly budgets. Bharti Airtel has pulled the plug on several of its popular prepaid plans nationwide, meaning you’ll now be shelling out between 5% and 16% more for your mobile services.
The telecom giant discontinued multiple prepaid plans today, impacting a range of price points for subscribers across India.
Your New Plan Options
- The ₹299 plan, which previously offered 1.5GB of data daily, is no longer available.
- Its closest replacement is now the ₹349 pack, providing 2GB of data daily for 28 days, marking a 16% price increase.
- Other mid-tier plans like the ₹249 and another ₹299 option have also been removed.
- Plans priced at ₹579, ₹619, and ₹649 were also discontinued.
This move significantly narrows the selection of plans, pushing customers towards higher-priced alternatives.
What Stays the Same
Not all plans are changing, thankfully. The entry-level ₹199 plan, which offers 2GB of data for 28 days, remains untouched.
Similarly, the ₹219 plan, providing 3GB of data for 28 days, continues to be available without any changes.
Behind the Business Decision
This strategic adjustment follows a period of strong financial growth for Airtel, as reported in its June quarter of 2026 earnings.
- Consolidated revenue hit ₹58,539 crore, a 5.7% increase quarter-on-quarter.
- EBITDA grew by 4.8% quarter-on-quarter to ₹33,599 crore.
- The company achieved an EBITDA margin of 57.4%.
- Shares of Bharti Airtel Ltd closed at ₹1,917.50 on the NSE today, up by 0.12%.
Airtel noted strong momentum in its India and Africa operations, particularly in its premium mobile and broadband customer segments, underscoring the company’s robust market position as it makes these tariff adjustments.
