Travelers looking for upgraded international flights just got another option, as Air India welcomed its fourth custom-made Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, VT-AWD, to Delhi.

This new arrival is a key step in the airline’s ongoing plan to modernize its fleet and transform the flying experience.

Expanding the Fleet

The new Dreamliner is set to operate on medium and long-haul international routes, offering enhanced passenger comfort.

This isn’t the first new addition this year. Air India had already received its first line-fit Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, VT-AWA, in January.

New Cabin Experience

The VT-AWA, a 296-seat aircraft, features three distinct cabin classes designed with bespoke interiors directly at Boeing’s production facility.

  • Premium Economy
  • Economy Class

Future Outlook and Upgrades

The Tata Group-owned carrier has big plans for its future fleet.

  • Air India expects to receive a total of six widebody aircraft in 2026.
  • These deliveries will include both Airbus A350-1000s and additional Boeing 787-9s.
  • Additionally, 26 of its older Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners are undergoing retrofitting with upgraded cabins and refreshed interiors.
  • The airline projects that approximately 60% of its widebody fleet will boast modern interiors by the end of 2026.

These fleet enhancements mean more comfortable and modern travel experiences for international passengers in the coming years.
