Air India A320 Incident: Probe Launched After Injuries

An Air India A320 aircraft, operating flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi on August 4, encountered severe technical malfunctions and turbulence. This led to a sudden loss of approximately 300 feet in altitude, prompting an immediate investigation into the serious incident.

The flight experienced multiple critical issues during its journey. These included the autopilot disconnecting, a flight control stall message, and a concerning triple hydraulic failure. Despite these significant challenges, the co-pilot successfully regained manual control of the aircraft, ensuring its safe landing in Delhi.

Investigation Underway

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a comprehensive probe into the incident. International assistance is expected, with specialists from France’s BEA agency and Airbus joining the inquiry to ascertain the root causes of the malfunctions.

The turbulence and technical issues resulted in injuries to at least 17 people aboard the flight. This count includes both passengers and members of the cabin crew, highlighting the physical impact of the mid-air event.

Pilot Screening Results Pending

Further scrutiny surrounds the pilot-in-command, who underwent confirmatory testing for psychoactive substances. This followed an initial screening that yielded a “non-negative” result, with the final outcomes still pending.

A pilots’ group, ALPA India, has noted that common over-the-counter medications could potentially cause such screening results. This context adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation into the operational integrity of the flight and its crew.
