The Adani Group has proposed a significant ₹1 trillion investment to develop an AI data centre in Odisha, requesting 250 acres of land from the state government. This ambitious project, if approved, would establish Odisha as a critical hub in India’s expanding digital infrastructure landscape, marking one of the largest AI initiatives in the country.
This standalone Adani investment differs from some of its joint data centre ventures, highlighting a direct strategic focus. Cuttack (Kataka) has emerged as a tentative location for the proposed facility.

This Odisha initiative aligns with Adani Group’s wider strategy to invest $100 billion by 2035 into renewable energy-powered, AI-ready data centres across India. The group already operates a data centre in Chennai via a joint venture with EdgeConneX.
Furthermore, Adani is actively developing additional facilities in key Indian cities, including Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad. It is crucial to note that this new ₹1 trillion proposal is distinct from an existing ₹800 crore Memorandum of Understanding for a hyperscale data centre already planned in Odisha.

Adani’s move is part of a broader trend among major Indian conglomerates and global tech giants to bolster AI computing infrastructure within the country. Google, for instance, is constructing a $15 billion, 1 GW AI data centre in Visakhapatnam.
Similarly, Reliance has proposed a substantial ₹1.08 trillion facility in Andhra Pradesh, underscoring the escalating competition and investment in this sector. The Adani Group’s ₹1 trillion data centre could fundamentally reshape Odisha’s economic identity, shifting its traditional focus from mining and metals towards a prominent role in India’s burgeoning AI revolution.
