Abu Dhabi Offers Free Tourist Visas for Indian Travelers

Abu Dhabi has launched a new free tourist visa program specifically for Indian passport holders. This initiative aims to encourage longer stays and boost tourism from India to the UAE capital.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is driving this program, which began on August 1 and extends until October 31, 2026. It is structured to support up to 20,000 visas for eligible travelers.

Program Mechanics Explained

Indian passport holders must meet several conditions to qualify for the complimentary visa under this scheme. The program requires bookings through specific channels and a minimum stay duration.

• Departing directly from India.
• Reservation made via an approved online travel agency or participating travel partner.
• Commitment to a minimum of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel.
• Possession of a return flight to India.

Travel agencies facilitating these bookings have two distinct methods for processing the visas and managing cost coverage. These options ensure the visa expense is fully absorbed by DCT Abu Dhabi.

• Collaborate with a DCT Abu Dhabi-designated Destination Management Company, which directly covers the visa cost.
• Continue with their existing destination management companies, with DCT Abu Dhabi reimbursing Dh285 for each approved visa.

Strategic Market Focus

This pilot program highlights India’s critical status as an international market for Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector. The initiative seeks to strengthen existing travel partnerships and expand opportunities for visitors.

Abdulla Yousuf, Director of Foreign Operations at DCT Abu Dhabi, stated that the program aims to enhance air connectivity and provide more avenues for Indian travelers. He emphasized experiencing Abu Dhabi’s culture, entertainment, hospitality, and natural attractions.

By eliminating visa costs for qualified bookings, Abu Dhabi strategically positions itself to attract a larger share of the outbound Indian tourism market over the next two years. This move underscores a clear intent to deepen economic and cultural ties.
