The three-match T20I series between Afghanistan and India, scheduled for New Delhi, will integrate advanced broadcast technology. ITW Universe, the broadcast rights holder, announced that the series will adhere to FIFA World Cup-level production standards, introducing sophisticated camera systems and immersive viewing technologies to cricket coverage.
Jamie Oakford, a director with experience from multiple FIFA World Cups, will lead the broadcast production for the series. This move aims to elevate the viewing experience for cricket fans.
Advanced Production Technologies Deployed
Key technological enhancements include several cutting-edge systems:
- AI-stabilised POV cameras will offer dynamic perspectives.
- Volumetric free-viewpoint technology will generate virtual camera angles.
- An advanced Spidercam system will provide aerial coverage.
- Ultra-slow-motion cameras are capable of recording over 600 frames per second for detailed replays.
Quidich Innovation Labs’ Spatio system represents a significant addition to the broadcast setup. This system integrates broadcast-grade augmented reality, stabilised aerial footage, and real-time optical player tracking.
These capabilities enable the creation of detailed field-placement graphics and strategic visualisations during the matches. Volumetric free-viewpoint technology further enhances replays by constructing a digital representation of the playing area and players.
Bhairav Shanth, founder of ITW Universe, stated the intent to move beyond traditional cricket production technology. This initiative aims to offer new experiences for both viewers and brands involved with the series.
The matches are scheduled for September 13, 15, and 17. Viewers can watch the series on Sony Sports and stream it on FanCode, marking a unique instance of India hosting a bilateral series with Afghanistan as the official host nation.
