Minda Instruments, a Minda Corp subsidiary, secures government approval for display module sub-assembly manufacturing, a key import substitution for India’s automotive sector.
Minda Instruments, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Minda Corporation, has secured government approval to manufacture Display Module Sub-Assemblies, a component largely imported by India until now. This strategic move signals a significant step towards domestic production and supply chain resilience.
The clearance was granted under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), aligning with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s broader initiative to bolster local electronics production. This development is part of a larger batch of 31 new proposals approved on August 17, bringing the total projects under the scheme to 106.
Strategic Backward Integration for Automotive OEMs
- Minda Instruments will establish a greenfield facility for TFT display module assembly.
- This move represents a crucial backward integration strategy for the company.
- It allows Minda to manufacture the display component in-house, replacing previous imports.
- Currently, Minda Instruments supplies instrument clusters and automotive electronics to major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
By producing these display components domestically, Minda Corporation strengthens its supply chain and reduces reliance on foreign imports. This vertical integration enhances cost control and ensures a more stable supply for its automotive OEM clients.
Minda Corporation’s Diversified Market Presence
- The parent company’s product portfolio encompasses Mechanical & Electronic Security Systems.
- It also includes Door Systems and Electronic Controllers for Electric Vehicles.
- Minda Corporation further provides Plastic Interiors for Auto OEMs across the Globe.
This approval underscores Minda Corporation’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities within India and seizing opportunities in the growing domestic electronics sector. The strategic shift towards in-house production of crucial components positions the company for enhanced market competitiveness.
