The Nifty 50 index settled at 24339.80, recording a modest decline of 26.20 points, or 0.11%, reflecting a cautious sentiment among investors. Despite the benchmark’s slight dip, the broader market showed signs of resilience. The Nifty Bank index demonstrated notable strength, closing at 57716.05 with a gain of 224.95 points, or 0.39%, as several key banking stocks posted solid gains. Similarly, the NIFTY Midcap 100 index also ended in positive territory, rising by 115.75 points (0.18%) to settle at 63897.90, indicating continued interest in mid-cap segments.

IT Sector Leads Declines, Metals and Banks Shine

The trading session witnessed a clear divergence, with the Information Technology (IT) sector experiencing significant pressure. Infosys Ltd. (SUNPHARMA) down 2.54% and Cipla Ltd. (CIPLA) falling by 1.28%.

On the flip side, the metals and banking sectors emerged as key drivers of positive momentum. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (HINDALCO) led the Nifty gainers, surging by 2.18% to ₹1051.95. The company had informed about press releases and updates during the day, which likely contributed to investor interest. Tata Steel Ltd. (TATASTEEL) also saw robust gains, up 1.36% to ₹186, following its announcement of a 12% rise in Q1 consolidated net profit. The company’s consolidated total income for Q1FY27 increased by 14.14% to ₹61,026.97 crore. In the banking space, Axis Bank Ltd. (AXISBANK) was a significant gainer, rising by 1.36% to ₹1234, after informing about the allotment of senior notes and the cessation of a director. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (KOTAKBANK) advanced by 1.11% to ₹395.5, and HDFC Bank Ltd. (HDFCBANK) gained 0.60% to ₹731.35.
