Walmart Q3 Growth Hit by Flipkart Sales Shift

By Business DeskWalmart Q3 Growth Hit by Flipkart Sales Shift

Walmart faces over 100 bps Q3 FY27 growth headwind as Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Days’ timing shifts, impacting Q3 but boosting Q4.

Walmart anticipates a headwind exceeding 100 basis points to its third-quarter sales growth in fiscal year 2027. This impact stems directly from a timing shift of its Indian e-commerce arm Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Days’ sales event.

The shift, while impacting Q3, is projected to provide a corresponding boost to sales in the fourth quarter. Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Days 2026’ is scheduled from September 23 to October 2, 2026, with early access on September 22, 2026.

Key Financial Projections

  • Walmart’s projected Q3 FY27 sales growth headwind: over 100 basis points

International Segment Performance

During the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, India remained a crucial growth driver for Walmart’s International Business. The international segment, operating across 18 countries, reported a robust 7.9% double-digit growth, achieving USD 33.7 billion.

China and India were noted as leading this international expansion. E-commerce now constitutes 30% of Walmart International’s business, demonstrating strong growth across China, India, and Canada.

Advertising and E-commerce Boost

Walmart also highlighted significant growth in its advertising business, which expanded by 20% during the quarter. Global advertising revenue saw a 38% increase, primarily driven by Walmart Connect in the US and Flipkart Ads.

Furthermore, e-commerce growth within the international segment rose by 19%, with China, India, and Canada once again leading the performance.

Walmart maintains a majority stake exceeding 80% in Flipkart, the Indian e-commerce marketplace. The retail giant initially acquired a 77% controlling stake in Flipkart in 2018 through a USD 16 billion deal.
