VIP Industries Revenue Up 3%, Recovery Path Ahead

By Business DeskVIP Industries Revenue Up 3%, Recovery Path Ahead

VIP Industries breaks 7-quarter slump with 3% Q1FY27 revenue growth. New management tackles inventory, targeting profitability by FY28.

VIP Industries has shown initial signs of a turnaround, reporting a 3% year-on-year revenue increase to Rs 578 crore in Q1FY27. This growth ends a challenging period of seven consecutive quarters of declining sales for the luggage manufacturer.

This shift follows a significant corporate restructuring, including a change in controlling ownership to a consortium led by Multiples Private Equity and Mithun Sacheti. A new CEO was appointed in September 2025, initiating a focused strategy to address past operational inefficiencies.

Strategic Shifts and Financial Impact

The new leadership prioritized clearing excess inventory, which had accumulated due to evolving customer preferences towards hard luggage and inadequate pricing controls. These efforts included absorbing Rs 123 crore in one-time provisions for obsolete stock in FY26 and providing Rs 40-50 crore in support to trade partners.

Despite these strategic interventions, VIP Industries reported a net loss of Rs 54 crore in Q1FY27, widening from Rs 13 crore a year earlier. Gross margins recovered to 41% in Q1FY27 from a low of 29% in Q3FY26, though they still lag the 45% recorded in Q1FY26, partly due to higher raw material costs.

The company also experienced a notable decline in market share, falling to approximately 29% by December 2025 from over 40% previously. While the core offline retail business appears to be stabilizing, the online channel continues to struggle, declining 36% in H1FY26 and an additional 34% in H2FY26 amid intense discounting and price competition.

The Path Ahead

Management projects that the business will achieve full stability by H2FY27. They anticipate a return to double-digit revenue growth and overall profitability starting from FY28.

VIP Industries’ journey highlights the complex interplay between strategic overhauls and market realities, with early revenue recovery providing a glimmer of hope amidst persistent financial and market share challenges.
