PharmEasy Bets on AI Physiotherapy to Revive Growth
By ThePip Desk
PharmEasy launches AI-powered physiotherapy to boost profitability and customer engagement after a significant valuation drop, expanding its digital healthcare services in India.
PharmEasy, the online pharmacy owned by API Holdings, has strategically launched an AI-powered online physiotherapy service. This move aims to enhance its digital health offerings and improve overall profitability, a critical objective as the company faces investor scrutiny.
The expansion is designed to increase customer retention and lifetime value, positioning PharmEasy as a comprehensive digital healthcare platform in India. This comes after a substantial valuation correction, dropping from $5.6 billion in 2021 to approximately $700 million by 2024.
Expanding Digital Healthcare Reach
The new AI physiotherapy platform allows patients to input symptoms and utilize smartphone cameras for AI-driven posture and movement analysis. This technology identifies the root cause of pain and generates a personalized home recovery plan, with certified physiotherapists monitoring progress through video consultations.
The service comprehensively covers over 250 conditions, including various pain types and post-operative rehabilitation needs. Consultations are positioned to be accessible, starting at ₹99, potentially reducing the necessity for in-person visits for minor ailments.
Strategic Advantage in a Growing Market
While PharmEasy enters a competitive landscape with existing AI-enabled physiotherapy platforms like Fix Health and FlexifyMe, it possesses a distinct advantage. The company can effectively cross-sell this new service to its extensive existing customer base in pharmacy and diagnostics, significantly reducing customer acquisition costs.
The Indian physiotherapy market is projected for significant growth, with digital physiotherapy expected to expand at an even faster rate. This software-led offering utilizes existing infrastructure, aligning with PharmEasy’s pivot towards improving customer retention and lifetime value without demanding heavy capital expenditure.
Investor Influence and Financial Performance
This strategic direction is heavily influenced by its investors, with a renewed management focus on operational discipline and profitability. API Holdings reported a 4% increase in revenue in FY25, alongside narrowed losses, yet revenue growth remains near-flat and the company is still EBITDA-negative.
The success of these AI-led healthcare services in delivering profitable growth will be paramount for PharmEasy’s future trajectory. The company’s ability to convert increased customer engagement into sustainable earnings remains a key watchpoint.
