Nykaa Now: 30-60 Min Delivery Strategy for Deeper Assortment
By ThePip Desk
Nykaa Now shifts to a 30-60 minute delivery model in India, prioritizing wider product selection and operational efficiency over ultra-fast delivery.
Nykaa’s quick commerce platform, Nykaa Now, is strategically expanding its beauty and personal care delivery across India, targeting a 30-60 minute delivery window. This deliberate approach, unlike the ultra-fast 10-minute model, underpins a broader strategy for inventory depth and operational efficiency.
Key Operational Figures
- Currently operational in 13 cities across India.
- Aims to expand to 25-30 cities in the coming quarters.
- Promises consumers a delivery window of 30-60 minutes.
- Utilizes 100 rapid (dark) stores, supplementing with existing brick-and-mortar locations.
Anchit Nayar, CEO of beauty e-commerce at Nykaa, explained this choice, stating the beauty category does not necessitate 10-minute deliveries. The extended timeframe allows for a more efficient operation and a smaller network of dark stores, which can then be better stocked.
Strategic Inventory Management
The 30-60 minute model directly enables Nykaa to stock its dark stores with a wider variety of SKUs and greater inventory depth. Nayar cautioned against the risks of a 10-minute delivery model, which would demand a significantly larger dark store network.
Such rapid delivery models risk inventory replication, potential aging of unsold stock, and increased financial liabilities. Nykaa Now, in contrast, optimizes for product breadth over extreme speed.
Unmatched Assortment Depth
Nykaa Now claims the largest assortment of beauty and personal care products, offering upwards of 10,000 SKUs. This specialization differentiates it from general quick commerce platforms that often lack depth in specific categories like beauty.
Dedicated rapid stores ensure consumers have extensive choices for items ranging from shampoos to make-up brushes. Furthermore, Nykaa’s physical stores, also used for hyperlocal deliveries, provide access to an even larger inventory of 1.5 lakh products.
Market Implications
While quick commerce purchases are often impulse-driven, Nykaa believes the depth of its SKU offerings will encourage consumers to wait the 30 minutes. This strategy is anticipated to increase customer transaction frequency, even if average order values on Nykaa Now might be slightly lower than its main e-commerce platform.
The company currently focuses exclusively on beauty and personal care products, with no immediate plans to expand into fashion. This reinforces its commitment to a specialized, depth-focused quick commerce model.
