L&T Secures Major Middle East BESS Deal

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a significant order in the Middle East, developing three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This strategic move, valued between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore, positions the Indian multinational as a key player in the region’s energy transition efforts.

The projects, awarded to L&T’s Renewables business vertical by a notable client, encompass more than just storage facilities. The extensive scope also includes crucial grid interconnections, pooling substations, and the installation of underground cables, highlighting a comprehensive infrastructure development.

Key Project Details

• These three projects will collectively contribute 6 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity.
• Each BESS features a 4-hour capability for storing and dispatching energy.
• The primary function is to support grid stability and facilitate renewable energy integration.
• Advanced liquid cooling technology is incorporated, promising higher power density, enhanced safety, and extended operational life.
• This enables effective energy shifting, allowing surplus clean energy generated during off-peak periods to be stored and delivered during peak demand hours.
