By Business DeskIndian Realty Sales Drop 21% Amid Fewer Project Launches

India’s top 28 real estate firms saw sales bookings fall 21% to ₹40,000 crore in Q1 FY27 due to fewer new launches and cautious buyer sentiment.

India’s 28 major listed real estate firms collectively experienced a significant 21% decline in sales bookings during the June quarter of 2026-27. This downturn saw bookings fall to approximately ₹40,000 crore, a notable drop from ₹50,900 crore reported in the previous year.

Key Sales Figures

  • Total sales bookings for 28 listed firms: Approximately ₹40,000 crore
  • Decline from previous year: 21%
  • Previous year’s sales bookings: ₹50,900 crore

This market contraction is primarily attributed to a reduction in new project launches by major developers. Additionally, a cautious sentiment among prospective homebuyers, influenced by broader global economic uncertainties, contributed to the decline.

Divergent Performance Among Developers

While the sector saw an overall decline, individual firm performances varied significantly. Godrej Properties emerged as the leader in sales bookings, securing ₹8,651 crore during the quarter.

  • Firms reporting growth (19): Lodha, Sobha, Max Estates, Puravankara, Kalpataru, Embassy Developments, Mahindra Lifespace, Raymond Realty, Sunteck Realty, Kolte-Patil, Shriram Properties, Ajmera Realty, Arvind SmartSpaces, TARC, Sri Lotus Developers, Arihant Superstructures, Arkade, Suraj Estate.
  • Firms reporting decrease (9): DLF, Prestige, Oberoi Realty, Signature Global, Aditya Birla Real Estate, Brigade, Ashiana Housing, Eldeco.

Notably, DLF Ltd recorded a substantial drop in sales bookings, plummeting to ₹657 crore from ₹11,425 crore. This sharp decrease was a direct result of the company undertaking no new project launches during the period.

Outlook: Anticipating a Second Quarter Revival

Despite the challenging June quarter, real estate consultants maintain an optimistic outlook. They anticipate a revival in sales numbers to commence from the second quarter onwards, suggesting a potential rebound for the listed realty sector.
