Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty50, closed lower on Tuesday, experiencing a decline primarily due to elevated crude oil prices and escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
- The BSE Sensex fell by 493 points, marking a 0.6% decrease.
- The NSE Nifty dropped 132 points, or 0.5%.
- The BSE 150 Midcap index decreased by 0.3%.
- The BSE 250 SmallCap index recorded a slight gain of 0.19%.
Among the day’s top performers were Axis Bank, M&M, and Bajaj Finance, while Infosys, Asian Paints, and HCL Tech emerged as the top losers. Sectoral performance saw IT and telecommunication sectors face selling pressure, contrasting with buying interest in the metal and realty sectors.

Rahul Shah, a Research Analyst at Equitymaster, expressed concerns regarding rising stock market valuations. He cautioned investors against disregarding valuations, even in passive investing strategies, highlighting that overvalued assets can lead to subpar returns.

Several Indian companies announced significant strategic moves and financial targets, shaping their future operational landscapes. These developments span investments, acquisitions, and new market entries across various sectors.
- Nelco, a Tata Group-backed satellite communications company, invested $20 million (approximately Rs 1.91 billion) in US-based Lunar Holdco Inc., acquiring a strategic minority stake. Lunar Holdco specializes in direct-to-device (D2D) satellite connectivity.
- Food delivery giant Swiggy outlined its ambitious FY31 growth strategy, targeting an Adjusted EBITDA of around Rs 100 billion. The company plans to more than triple its consolidated Gross Order Value (GOV) to approximately Rs 2.5 trillion by FY31, driven by its Food Delivery, Instamart, and Dineout segments.
- Greaves Cotton completed the acquisition of the remaining 20% stake in Excel Controlinkage, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary. This finalizes a multi-tranche deal initiated in 2023 for the engine and electric vehicle manufacturer.
- Lenskart Solutions announced the incorporation of Wenzhou Framekart Trade Co., Ltd., a new step-down subsidiary in China, effective August 14, 2026. This entity, 95% owned by Lenskart’s joint venture Baofeng Framekart Technology Limited (BFT), will focus on eyewear product trading, import, export, and procurement.
- Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) energy arm, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore (LTEH Offshore), secured an ‘Ultra Mega order’ valued over Rs 15 billion. This contract from a major client in the Middle East involves developing several offshore facilities, significantly bolstering LTEH Offshore’s order book.
