India and Singapore deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, prioritizing collaboration in semiconductors, green economy, and shipping sectors.

India and Singapore have significantly advanced their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), identifying semiconductors, the green economy, and green shipping as priority sectors for collaboration. This strategic enhancement emerged from the 4th India–Singapore Ministerial Roundtable.

High-Level Engagement Drives Partnership

The recent Ministerial Roundtable involved high-level delegations from both nations, underscoring a mutual commitment to future-ready collaborations. Discussions centered on initiatives designed to strengthen supply-chain links and foster skills development across various sectors.

  • India’s delegation included Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State Jitin Prasada.
  • Singapore was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Senior Minister K Shanmugam, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Digital Development Minister Josephine Teo, and Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow.

Bolstering Semiconductor Collaboration

In the crucial semiconductor sector, both nations are committed to deepening supply-chain connections and enhancing skills within the industry. Singapore noted a rise in investments from semiconductor manufacturers in India following the 2024 India–Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership MoU.

  • A forthcoming “Green Lane Initiative for SEMICON” will streamline the movement of critical personnel, equipment, and materials.
  • Plans include establishing specialized training centers to support the ecosystem.
  • Support will be extended to Singaporean SMEs investing in India’s semiconductor landscape.

Advancing Green Initiatives

The green economy and green shipping represent prominent areas for expanded cooperation, with a focus on sustainable development. Key discussions included establishing a “Green hydrogen supply chain” between the two countries.

  • Talks also covered the creation of a “Singapore–India Green and Digital Shipping Corridor” and an expansion of their Air Services Agreement.
  • An MoU was signed for Maritime Heritage Cooperation, facilitating exchanges between museums and institutions, including India’s National Maritime Heritage Complex in Lothal, Gujarat.

Expanding Digital and Food Security Links

Significant progress was also reported in digital connectivity, fintech integration, and ensuring food security. There has been a notable increase in UPI–PayNow Connect transactions, highlighting deeper financial technology integration.

  • India’s TRAI and Singapore’s IMDA exchanged a Letter of Intent to promote information exchange on telecommunications and broadcasting regulation.

Regarding agri-exports, India is now exporting Litchis, Mangoes, Cherries, and Plums to Singapore. Indian establishments have also received approval for exporting processed poultry products.

  • An MoU between FSSAI and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) was signed to facilitate bilateral trade of agricultural and food products through technical information exchange on food safety.

Broader Cooperation Horizons

Further collaborative efforts extend into skills development, healthcare, and business ties. These initiatives aim to foster human capital growth and reinforce economic linkages.

  • The National Centre of Excellence for Skilling in Chennai has been established, alongside the upcoming 4th Singapore–India Hackathon scheduled for November 2026.
  • A pilot program is underway for registering Indian generic medicines in Singapore, enhancing healthcare access.

Business ties were reinforced through the 4th India–Singapore Business Roundtable, with the Singapore Business Federation announcing a new office in Bengaluru. On the diplomatic front, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan laid the foundation stone for the new Chancery cum Residential Building Complex of the High Commission.
