India & Brazil Boost Digital Ties at BRICS ICT Meet

India and Brazil sign MoU to enhance ICT cooperation, driving digital innovation and infrastructure development at the BRICS ICT Meeting.
India and Brazil have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in telecommunications and information and communications technologies (ICTs). This significant agreement was signed during the BRICS ICT Track Meeting in Pune.
The Union Minister of Communications for India, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, and Brazil’s Minister of Communications, H.E. Mr. Frederico de Siqueira Filho, jointly signed the MoU. This formalization took place on the sidelines of two key events in Pune: the BRICS ICT Track Meeting and the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting.
The Department of Telecommunications stated that the agreement aims to foster digital innovation and strengthen digital infrastructure across both nations. It also seeks to promote collaboration in various emerging technologies, marking a strategic step towards a more interconnected future.
Expanding Bilateral Digital Collaboration
Minister Scindia emphasized the MoU’s role in boosting bilateral cooperation across several critical domains. These include achieving universal connectivity, ensuring robust cybersecurity, and developing digital public infrastructure.
The agreement also covers collaboration on emerging technologies and capacity building initiatives. Both nations will exchange best practices to secure and foster an inclusive digital future.
Key Discussions at the BRICS Forum
The Pune event brought together a diverse group of participants from BRICS member countries, including government officials, industry leaders, academics, startups, and research institutions. Discussions focused on crucial themes shaping the global digital landscape.
One thematic panel addressed cybersecurity and Trustworthy ICTs, with a particular focus on Child Online Protection. This session highlighted the critical security and trust aspects inherent in digital transformation efforts.
Another significant discussion centered on Sustainable and Resilient Digital and ICT Ecosystems. This included dialogues on achieving universal, meaningful, and affordable connectivity for all citizens.
Participants also explored energy-efficient and climate-resilient infrastructure development. The integration of emerging approaches, such as satellite and non-terrestrial systems, was also a key topic.
