Madhya Pradesh commits over ₹1.33 lakh crore to women & child welfare schemes until 2030-31, focusing on self-reliance and empowerment.

The Madhya Pradesh government has committed over ₹1.33 lakh crore (₹1,32,829.12 crore) to three crucial women and child-centric welfare schemes, with allocations extending until 2030-31. This significant financial pledge, announced by the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on August 18, 2026, targets the Mukhyamanri Ladli Behna Yojana, Ladli Laxmi Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently disbursed over ₹2,148 crore to more than 1.25 crore beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna Yojana on August 19, 2026. This distribution included a regular monthly assistance of ₹1,500 along with an additional ₹250 Raksha Bandhan gift, bringing the total to ₹1,750 per beneficiary for August.

Understanding the Ladli Behna Yojana’s Core

The largest share of this overall commitment, approximately 86%, is dedicated to the Ladli Behna Yojana, totaling ₹1,14,365 crore. This scheme delivers a monthly financial aid of ₹1,500 directly to eligible married women through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

  • Beneficiaries include widows, divorced, and deserted women aged 21 to 60.
  • The primary objective is to empower women towards self-reliance.
  • Funds are utilized for various purposes, such as purchasing sewing machines or livestock.

Ladli Laxmi Yojana’s Long-Term Support for Girls

An allocation of ₹16,326.47 crore supports the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, which provides long-term financial assistance for eligible girl children across different educational milestones. The scheme is designed to secure their future from an early age.

  • An initial investment of ₹30,000 is made over five years via National Savings Certificates.
  • Further aid is linked to school admissions in Classes VI and IX, and higher secondary education.
  • A final payment of ₹1 lakh is provided when the girl turns 21, subject to specific conditions.
  • Approximately 50.99 lakh girls have already benefited from this initiative.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’s Maternal Aid

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, receives a state allocation of ₹2,137.65 crore from Madhya Pradesh. This program offers crucial financial support to pregnant and lactating mothers across the state.

  • Under PMMVY 2.0, eligible women receive ₹5,000 in two installments for their first child.
  • For a second girl child, the benefit increases to ₹6,000.
  • Eligibility extends to socially and economically disadvantaged categories.
  • Nationally, 4.28 crore beneficiaries have received a total of ₹20,150 crore under PMMVY as of April 30, 2026.

Economic Impact and State Financial Dynamics

This substantial commitment, averaging about ₹26,566 crore annually over five years, represents a notable portion of Madhya Pradesh’s financial outlay. It accounts for roughly 6.3% of the state’s total expenditure and 8.6% of its revenue expenditure for FY2026-27.

  • An SBI Research report from December 2023 indicated that beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna Yojana increased their merchant-outlet spending by about ₹9,302 per person compared to non-beneficiaries.
  • This suggests a direct stimulation of local economic activity through these direct financial transfers.

While the schemes aim to foster self-reliance and improve welfare, the long-term impact on women’s financial independence, girls’ educational outcomes, and maternal health remains a critical aspect to observe.
