Indian equity markets are set for a gap-up opening on Wednesday, influenced by positive global market signals and the eagerly awaited monetary policy announcement from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Traders are also closely monitoring developments regarding the potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, following US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s statements about an imminent deal between Washington and Tehran.

Global Market Dynamics

Global markets provided a strong impetus, with US markets closing higher on Tuesday. Asian markets continued this positive trend, trading mostly in the green on Wednesday.

The positive sentiment in US markets followed data from the Commerce Department, which indicated a narrowing trade deficit in June.

  • The US trade deficit reduced to $73.3 billion in June.
  • This represents a decrease from the $77.6 billion recorded in May.

Domestic Economic Outlook

On the domestic front, key economic indicators and projections are shaping market expectations. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) forecast for India’s economy.

  • India’s economy is projected to reach the $5-trillion mark by FY29.
  • The government is implementing a broad-based growth strategy to achieve this milestone.

Further insights into India’s global economic engagement were provided by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada, who noted a rise in Outward Direct Investment (ODI) outflows.

This increase, Prasada explained, signifies the growing global ambitions and capabilities of Indian enterprises as they seek strategic assets, new markets, and advanced technologies abroad.

Trade and Policy Engagements

India is also actively pursuing international trade agreements. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed ongoing efforts with the US to finalize an interim trade agreement, with a few remaining issues requiring resolution.

Exports from India’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have shown significant growth, according to data presented by Jitin Prasada.

  • SEZ exports increased by 11.8 per cent year-on-year.
  • Total exports from SEZs reached Rs 16,36,192 crore ($185.28 billion) in 2025-26.

Looking ahead, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is expected to visit the United States in late September for the G-20 Trade Ministerial meeting in Milwaukee. Meanwhile, traders will observe the HSBC Composite PMI Final data, scheduled for release later today.
