If you’re dreaming of owning a home, you’re definitely not alone! A recent report by Home Credit India reveals that 31% of lower-middle-class Indians are making home ownership their top financial goal for the next five years.
This isn’t just a slight bump; it marks an 8 percentage point increase from the previous year, showing a clear shift towards long-term asset creation. Interestingly, 40% of women prioritize home ownership, a higher figure compared to 29% of men.
The “The Great Indian Wallet 2026” report attributes this growing aspiration to a significant boost in financial confidence. The Financial Well-Being Index has reached its highest level since 2023, reflecting a much more optimistic outlook across the country.
This confidence extends widely, with 85% of respondents feeling assured they will achieve their financial goals. An even higher 87% anticipate that their overall financial situation will improve in the near future.
It’s also great news for your savings habits: 53% of individuals are now consistently saving money after covering their monthly expenses. Among all demographics, Gen Z is notably leading the way when it comes to saving more.
While securing a home is a top priority, many are also setting their sights on entrepreneurship, showcasing a vibrant desire for financial independence. Digital financial tools and credit are increasingly becoming vital resources to help you secure your financial future and reach these ambitious goals.
However, even with rising confidence, affordability remains a crucial factor when you’re looking to purchase a home. This means smart budgeting and understanding credit will be key on your journey to owning your own space.
