Govt DA Nears 63% for Employees Post-June 2026 Data
By ThePip Desk
Central government employees and pensioners may see a 63% Dearness Allowance (DA) based on June 2026 AICPI-IW data. Announcement expected around Diwali.
Central government employees and pensioners are set to receive a 63% Dearness Allowance (DA) if the latest calculation based on June 2026 data is approved. The Labour Bureau’s All India Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) figures for June 2026 underpin this anticipated hike.
Dearness Allowance serves as a crucial salary component for public sector employees, specifically designed to mitigate the impact of inflation and rising living costs. Its value is calculated as a percentage of an employee’s basic salary, with updated formulas last implemented in 2006.
Understanding the Latest DA Calculation
The recent data from the Labour Bureau provides the foundation for the expected DA adjustment:
- The All India Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) stood at 151.9 for June 2026.
- This index yielded an average 12-month reading of 148.65.
- The resulting Dearness Allowance calculation is 63.76%, typically rounded by the government to 63%.
A 2% DA increase was previously implemented in January 2026, marking a significant adjustment earlier this year. Should the anticipated 3% hike be approved based on the new AICPI-IW data, the total Dearness Allowance for central government employees under the 7th Pay Commission would reach 63%.
Anticipated Announcement Timeline
Based on established historical trends, the second DA increase for central government employees and pensioners is expected to be announced around Diwali. Previous increases were notably declared around Diwali in 2024 and in October of last year.
Central government employees will continue to receive Dearness Allowance under the provisions of the 7th Pay Commission. This structure will remain in effect until the revised pay structure under the 8th Pay Commission is officially enacted.
