DSP Finance Acquires Volt Money for Digital Lending Scale
By Business Desk
DSP Finance acquires Volt Money, enhancing digital lending against mutual funds with 5-minute disbursal. Expands loan book to ₹4,000 crore.
DSP Finance, the non-banking financial company (NBFC) arm of DSP Group, has acquired Salter Technologies Pvt. Ltd., known as Volt Money. This strategic move aims to expand DSP Finance’s digital lending offerings, particularly for loans against financial assets.
Volt Money specializes in Loans Against Mutual Funds (LAMF), a digital platform designed for quick, seamless access to liquidity. Funds are disbursed within five minutes, subject to applicable processes and approvals.
Key operational figures for DSP Finance reveal significant activity since its registration as an NBFC in July 2024. The company has onboarded over 1.8 lakh retail customers and established a loan book of approximately ₹4,000 crore.
The acquisition combines Volt Money’s digital expertise with DSP Finance’s established balance sheet, risk management, and institutional infrastructure. This integration is set to strengthen the combined entity’s ability to scale digital lending across India’s mutual fund and wealth management sectors.
Strategic Rationale and Market Impact
LAMF offers investors a method to secure liquidity against their mutual fund holdings without needing to redeem their long-term investments. This allows them to address immediate financial needs while maintaining their positions in growth assets.
Hemendra Kothari, Chairman of DSP Finance, described the acquisition as a ‘significant step in building technology-led secured lending capabilities.’ He emphasized creating a ‘scaled and responsible lending platform’ by merging Volt Money’s digital prowess with DSP Finance’s institutional strength.
Jayesh Mehta, Vice Chairman & CEO of DSP Finance, noted the integration of ‘complementary capabilities in technology, customer experience, lending, and risk management’ to bolster their digital lending platform. Lalit Bihani, CEO and Co-founder of Volt Money, expressed that joining DSP Finance provides the opportunity to combine their technology with the group’s scale to ‘expand the digital ecosystem and create more solutions for customers nationwide.’
As financial assets increasingly contribute to Indian household wealth, LAMF is anticipated to become a more convenient and affordable source of credit. This acquisition positions DSP Finance to capitalize on that evolving market demand.
