By ThePip DeskIndian Markets Dip: IT, FMCG Stocks Fall Amid Q1 FY27 Results

Indian benchmarks Sensex & Nifty50 fell on Aug 18, 2026, led by IT & FMCG stocks. Mixed Q1 FY27 results and valuation concerns impact market sentiment.

Indian benchmark indices concluded the trading session on August 18, 2026, in negative territory, primarily influenced by selling pressure across IT and FMCG shares. The BSE Sensex recorded a decline of 281 points, representing a 0.3% drop, while the NSE Nifty 50 shed 78 points, closing 0.1% lower.

Despite the broader market dip, midcap and smallcap indices managed to post marginal gains. Sectoral performance remained bifurcated, with IT and telecommunication sectors experiencing notable selling, contrasting with sustained buying interest observed in the metal and realty sectors.

Equitymaster Research Analyst Rahul Shah issued a caution regarding the inherent risks associated with escalating valuations. He underscored that even high-quality assets could transform into poor investments if acquired at inflated prices, urging investor prudence.
