India is set to establish its own space station, the Bharatiya Antariksha Station, by the year 2035. ISRO Chairman Dr. V Narayanan officially announced this ambitious national goal, confirming that the initial module for the station has already received approval.

National Space Day Declaration

This significant declaration was made during the third National Space Day celebrations held in Ahmedabad. Dr. Narayanan highlighted India’s impressive 64 years of advancements in space technology, noting its application in over 50 areas for public benefit.

  • These applications include Earth observation for environmental monitoring.
  • Telecommunications services for enhanced connectivity.
  • Disaster management to aid in crisis response.

Expanding India’s Space Capabilities

Beyond the space station, Dr. Narayanan also mentioned the ongoing Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission. This program is a key upcoming initiative poised to further expand India’s capabilities in space exploration.

Government’s Vision for Space Sector

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, also present at the event, underscored the importance of the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s success. Its historic landing near the Moon’s south pole was the direct reason for the establishment of National Space Day.

Shekhawat further emphasized the government’s strategic initiative to privatize the space sector. This move is designed to foster new opportunities for India’s domestic space industry and enhance the operational efficiency of ISRO.

India’s evolving space program is clearly moving towards achieving a sustained human presence in space. This trajectory positions the nation for a more prominent global role in the coming years.
