India Mutual Funds Hit Record High: JioBlackRock Expands

By Market DeskIndia Mutual Funds Hit Record High: JioBlackRock Expands

India’s mutual fund industry reaches a record Rs 85.76 lakh crore in assets. JioBlackRock plans to launch regular plans, boosting industry growth.

India’s mutual fund industry just hit an all-time high, reaching a massive Rs 85.76 lakh crore in assets by July 2026. This comes as JioBlackRock Asset Management gets ready to roll out ‘regular plans’ to expand its reach.

Here’s a quick look at the numbers:

  • Total mutual fund assets: Rs 85.76 lakh crore (July 2026)
  • Previous year total assets: Rs 75.36 lakh crore
  • Equity fund assets: Rs 52.3 lakh crore (up from Rs 45.1 lakh crore last year)
  • Equity funds now make up: 61% of total industry assets
  • Net inflows into equity schemes: Rs 24,697 crore (July)
  • Individual investors hold: 87% of their mutual fund assets in equity schemes
  • Monthly SIP investments: Rs 31,961 crore (up 12% year-over-year)
  • Total SIP accounts: 10.63 crore (12.5% growth)
  • Passive fund assets: Rs 15.15 lakh crore (up 24%)
  • Passive funds now make up: 18% of total industry assets
  • JioBlackRock’s assets in first year: Rs 18,000 crore

This huge growth happened because more people are putting money into equity funds, which are investments mainly in stocks. Systematic Investment Plans, or SIPs (regular, fixed investments), and passive products (track index, low cost) also saw big jumps. More investors outside big cities are joining in too.

JioBlackRock’s Distribution Play

JioBlackRock Asset Management is making a strategic move. They will soon offer ‘regular plans’ for their mutual fund schemes through registered distributors. This means they are broadening their distribution strategy beyond their existing direct digital channels (buy funds straight from company).

However, these regular plans will include distributor commissions, which will add to investor costs. The joint venture between Jio Financial Services and BlackRock has already gathered around Rs 18,000 crore in assets within its first year. They recently jumped into India’s exchange-traded fund market, which are funds that trade like stocks, by launching the JioBlackRock Nifty 50 ETF.

Equity and SIP Surge

Equity mutual fund assets really took off, reaching about Rs 52.3 lakh crore in July. That’s a big jump from Rs 45.1 lakh crore just a year before. These funds now make up 61% of the entire mutual fund industry.

Here’s how equity funds saw inflows:

  • Net inflows in July: Rs 24,697 crore
  • Leading the inflows: Small-cap (small company stocks), mid-cap (medium company stocks), and flexi-cap (invests across market sizes) funds.

Individual investors are really leaning into this, holding about 87% of their mutual fund money in equity-focused schemes. SIP investments also grew by 12% year-over-year, hitting Rs 31,961 crore monthly. The number of SIP accounts also shot up by 12.5% to 10.63 crore.

Passive fund assets also grew significantly, up 24% to Rs 15.15 lakh crore, now making up 18% of all mutual fund assets. This continued expansion shows more people are getting into mutual funds, especially as firms like JioBlackRock make them more accessible.
