BSE and MSCI partner to explore launching derivative contracts on MSCI indices in India, aiming to enhance market access and hedging for investors.

Stock exchange BSE confirmed on Wednesday a new agreement with global index provider MSCI to investigate the introduction of derivative contracts linked to MSCI indices within India. This initiative aims to advance the Indian capital market, pending necessary regulatory approvals.

Key Market Development

The strategic move by BSE intends to offer investors additional avenues for accessing and hedging their exposure to the Indian market. MSCI indices are widely recognized benchmarks, with substantial assets under management.

  • MSCI indices benchmark over $21 trillion in assets under management as of December 31, 2025.

Rationale and Market Accessibility

BSE emphasized that derivatives tied to these prominent indices will support fund managers in facilitating capital flows and effectively managing equity exposure. The increasing volume of capital benchmarked against these indices, alongside the tradability of index-based products via exchange-traded funds, has generated demand for such futures and options.

Sundararaman Ramamurthy, managing director and chief executive officer of BSE, stated the partnership will significantly enhance India’s market accessibility. He confirmed it provides investors a further method to gain and hedge market exposure.
