By Business Desk
BSE Ltd. and MSCI ink deal to explore futures and options contracts on MSCI indexes in India, aiming to boost market accessibility and hedging for investors.
BSE Ltd. announced on Wednesday it has signed an agreement with MSCI to explore introducing futures and options contracts in India. These derivatives will be linked to MSCI indexes, subject to receiving necessary regulatory approvals.
This strategic initiative aims to further develop the Indian capital market. It seeks to provide investors with additional avenues to access and hedge their exposure to the Indian market.
Global Benchmark Integration
MSCI indexes are globally recognized benchmarks, managing over $21 trillion in assets as of December 31, 2025. The exchange indicated that derivatives tied to these indexes can significantly assist fund managers.
Such instruments facilitate fund flows and help manage equity exposure, as stated by BSE. Sundararaman Ramamurthy, MD and CEO of BSE, expressed pride in this development.
Ramamurthy noted the agreement enhances India’s market accessibility. It offers investors an additional way to access and hedge their Indian market exposure.
Market Development and Regulatory Path
The agreement with MSCI specifically encompasses several of its indexes for potential launch in India. All proposed index-linked derivatives remain contingent on full regulatory clearance.
Established in 1875, BSE Limited holds the distinction as Asia’s oldest stock exchange. It is also one of the world’s largest exchanges based on the number of listed companies.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards broadening India’s financial product offerings, potentially drawing deeper capital engagement in the domestic market.
