Bollywood Stars Face ₹10 Lakh Fine for Pan Masala Ads
By Business Desk
Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff face a ₹10 lakh fine over Vimal Elaichi ads, suspected as surrogate promotions for banned pan masala.
When our favorite stars pop up in ads, we usually trust what they’re selling. But now, Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff are facing scrutiny over their Vimal Elaichi advertisements, with authorities suspecting a hidden agenda.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has served these big names show-cause notices. The department suspects these ads are actually surrogate promotions for Vimal Pan Masala, a product currently banned in Maharashtra.
The FDA’s Stance
Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe stated that surrogate, false, and misleading advertisements are strictly prohibited. He emphasized that legal repercussions will follow if explanations are unsatisfactory.
- Potential fine of up to ₹10 lakh in the initial stage.
- Actors must respond within 15 days.
- Notices span 9 pages, sent to residences and production houses.
What the Notices Demand
The FDA believes these advertisements create a direct link between ‘Vimal Elaichi’ and the banned ‘VIMAL Pan Masala’ brand. They want to ensure ads aren’t just boosting brand identity for prohibited items.
The notices specifically ask for details of the actors’ endorsement agreements and other relevant documents. This will help determine if the campaigns genuinely promote an independent elaichi product or if they’re designed to enhance attraction to pan masala or tobacco-related products.
This situation highlights the importance of transparency in advertising and how brands, and the stars endorsing them, are held accountable to consumers.
