Regional Closures Across India
The RBI’s official holiday calendar for 34 listed cities indicates that a significant number of branches will not conduct regular operations today. These closures are specifically tied to local observances rather than a nationwide banking holiday.
The 13 cities experiencing bank closures on August 28 are:
Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Raipur, Shimla, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram.
The holidays precipitating these closures include:
Raksha Bandhan, Pang-Lhabsol, Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi, and Ayyankali Jayanthi.

Cities where banks are operating include Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kohima, Kolkata, Imphal, Itanagar, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Shillong, and Vijayawada.
Beyond traditional banking, India’s financial markets are unaffected by these regional bank holidays. Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) are open for trading today.
Commodity exchanges, specifically MCX and NCDEX, are also fully operational. Furthermore, trading activities in the debt and currency markets will proceed as usual, ensuring continuity in these critical financial segments.
