HSBC’s Top India Stock Picks: ICICI Bank, M&M, Titan
By Business Desk
HSBC reveals top India stock picks including ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Titan, anticipating strong foreign fund inflows and a positive earnings outlook.
HSBC has unveiled a new list of high-conviction Indian stock ideas, anticipating an improved earnings outlook, robust domestic demand, and the return of foreign investor capital. The brokerage highlights several key names for potential upside.
ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Titan, Cholamandalam Investment & Finance, Phoenix Mills, and Fortis Healthcare stand out as top recommendations from HSBC analysts. These picks align with a preference for “quality growth names” in domestically driven sectors.
HSBC Identifies Key Growth Drivers
HSBC’s favored sectors encompass financials, automobiles, retail, healthcare, real estate, industrials, and materials. Specific attention is given to private banks and diversified non-banking financial companies, including ICICI Bank and Cholamandalam Investment & Finance. Real estate is also favored after its recent underperformance, along with consumer discretionary companies over staples due to better growth prospects.
Anticipating Foreign Fund Inflows
Analysts suggest the AI-led rotation away from India has largely concluded, noting over 80% of active Global Emerging Market (GEM) funds remain underweight India. A shift to neutral positioning by these funds could inject nearly $25 billion into Indian equities. Foreign investors have already purchased $3.6 billion in Indian equities since mid-June, indicating renewed interest.
Robust Earnings & Macro Support
The investment case is further bolstered by improving corporate earnings. A substantial 73% of companies reported June-quarter (Q1FY27) results that met or exceeded expectations, leading to upward revisions in earnings estimates across various sectors. High-frequency indicators, including robust credit growth and stronger demand, also provide market support alongside supportive Reserve Bank of India policies.
Navigating Global Headwinds
Despite the positive outlook, HSBC cautions that external risks warrant close monitoring. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the US Federal Reserve’s policy decisions are cited as crucial factors. The brokerage also observes that increased volatility in AI-linked sectors, such as Korea, is prompting investors to diversify, a trend from which India is well-positioned to benefit.
