HDFC Bank secures $1.75 billion via overseas bond issuance from GIFT City Branch to fuel significant business expansion and growth initiatives.
HDFC Bank has successfully secured $1.75 billion through an overseas bond issuance, a strategic move designed to bolster the bank’s business expansion initiatives. This significant fundraising was executed via its GIFT City Branch, located in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, targeting future growth opportunities.
The capital was raised through the issuance of senior unsecured bonds, structured into two distinct tranches to attract a diverse investor base. These bonds are intended to provide long-term funding, crucial for the bank’s overarching growth objectives and operational scale.
Details of the Overseas Bond Issuance
The issuance includes a tranche of $500 million, comprising three-year notes. These specific notes carry an annual coupon rate of 5.159%, reflecting the cost of borrowing for this particular maturity period.
A larger portion of the fundraising, amounting to $1.25 billion, consists of five-year papers. This second tranche offers investors a coupon rate of 5.4%, providing an alternative option for those seeking longer-term investment instruments.
These newly issued bonds are slated for listing on prominent international exchanges located within India. Specifically, they will be listed on both India INX, formally known as the India International Exchange (IFSC) Limited, and the NSE International Exchange (NSE-IX).
The decision to list on these platforms ensures broad transparency and accessibility for investors globally, effectively integrating this significant issuance into international financial markets. This strategic approach supports HDFC Bank’s intent to broaden its operational footprint and diversify its funding sources through the global financial ecosystem.
