Egypt’s crude oil production has surged past 540,000 bbl/d, signaling a return to growth. This increase is driven by EGPC efforts to boost production and secure fuel supplies.

Egypt’s Oil Production Surges Past 540K BPD

Egypt’s total crude oil production has surged past 540,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), signaling a significant return to growth after a period of decline. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, announced this milestone, crediting the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) for its efforts.

Driving Production Growth

The Minister emphasized safety as a top priority and called for innovative solutions to operational challenges. The goal is to attract new investments, increase production, and accelerate project execution.

  • Collaboration with EGPC is enhancing commercial terms for exploration and production agreements with international partners.
  • Focus areas include high-risk frontier regions like the Red Sea, Western Mediterranean, and southern Western Desert.
  • These efforts aim to encourage increased exploration spending and upstream activities.

Boosting Fuel Security & Refining

EGPC CEO Salah Abdel Kerim outlined initiatives to boost hydrocarbon production and secure domestic fuel supplies. Plans also include improving the efficiency of transportation, distribution, and refining operations.

  • The ongoing gasoline complex project at Cairo Oil Refining Company (CORC) is expected to increase gasoline production by approximately 2,000 tons per day from August.
  • This project is projected to reduce Egypt’s fuel import bill by about $70 million monthly.
  • The sector is prepared to meet increased summer demand, building on successful supply management from the previous two years.

Badawi had previously noted that crude oil production stabilized at around 540,000 bbl/d in February 2025, following a decline from approximately 600,000 bbl/d, as new drilling and field development gained momentum.
