The Indian equity markets closed lower on Tuesday, July 14, with the Nifty 50 declining by −0.66%, or −159 points, to settle at 24052.05. This broad-based selling pressure was evident across major indices, as the Nifty Bank also saw a significant drop of −1.15%, shedding −669 points to close at 57462.30. Despite the overall downturn, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued to provide substantial buying support, offsetting some of the selling pressure from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).

FII and DII Flows
On July 14, FIIs were net sellers, offloading equities worth −₹739.69 crore. This marks a continuation of the selling trend observed on July 13, when FIIs net sold −₹3062.27 crore. In stark contrast, DIIs maintained their robust buying activity, injecting +₹2927.71 crore into the market on July 14, following +₹2171.7 crore on July 13. Over the last five sessions, DIIs have been consistent net buyers, providing a crucial cushion against FII outflows.

Private Bank and Bank sectors also experienced significant losses, down −1.61% and −1.12% respectively. Healthcare was down −1.00%, and Consumer Durables closed −0.58% lower. What to Watch at 9:15 AM
As the market prepares for Wednesday’s open, the Nifty 50’s close below the 24100 mark, coupled with significant selling in financial and IT sectors, suggests a cautious start. The consistent DII buying, however, indicates underlying domestic support. Market breadth on Tuesday was balanced, with 26 advances and 24 declines in the Nifty 50, suggesting that while index heavyweights faced pressure, a broader panic was not observed. Traders will closely monitor early cues for sustained DII activity and any potential reversal in FII flows, particularly in the heavily impacted financial and IT segments.
