Moniepoint Inc. launches DreamDevs Bootcamp in Lagos, investing in Nigeria’s digital workforce to combat Africa’s growing tech talent shortage and boost the digital economy.

Moniepoint Tackles Africa’s Tech Talent Gap

Moniepoint Inc., a leading digital financial services provider, is intensifying efforts to close Africa’s significant software engineering talent shortage. The company recently celebrated the graduation of the second cohort from its DreamDevs Bootcamp in Lagos.

This initiative aims to cultivate local engineering talent, crucial for supporting Africa’s expanding digital economy. Globally, a deficit of 85 million software developers is projected by 2030, potentially leading to $5.5 trillion in economic losses.

DreamDevs Bootcamp: A Strategic Investment

Moniepoint’s Co-Founder and CTO, Felix Ike, emphasized that DreamDevs is a strategic, long-term investment in Nigeria’s digital workforce, not merely a recruitment drive.

The intensive nine-week bootcamp, developed with Semicolon, covers critical software engineering domains:

  • Java Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
  • Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Software Testing
  • MySQL
  • Spring Boot APIs
  • System Design
  • Docker and Messaging Queues
  • Frontend UI and Cloud Infrastructure

Participants gain practical experience developing real-world solutions and receive mentorship from senior Moniepoint engineers, preparing them for enterprise-level roles.

Complementing National Talent Efforts

This private sector-led intervention complements national initiatives like Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program. While 3MTT broadens access to basic skills, DreamDevs focuses on deeper, specialized engineering training.

Such programs are vital as African fintech companies and digital businesses scale rapidly, outpacing the available talent pipeline.
