Persistent FII Outflows and Sectoral Weakness Drive Downturn
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling streak, emerging as net sellers for the session and offloading equities worth a substantial −3062.27 crore. This significant outflow follows a period of mixed activity, including a strong inflow of +2603.72 crore on July 10, but also a previous outflow of −532.86 crore on July 9. Conversely, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided crucial counter-balancing support, recording net purchases of +2171.7 crore, maintaining their consistent buying trend seen in recent sessions.
Selling pressure was particularly pronounced in key sectors, notably IT and financials. HCL Technologies led the declines among Nifty 50 constituents, experiencing a sharp drop of −4.52%. Other IT majors also felt the heat. The financial sector faced considerable headwinds, with several heavyweights registering significant losses. Shriram Finance fell −3.40%, HDFC Life Insurance Company declined −3.15%, and State Bank of India was down −2.17%. JIO Financial Services and Bajaj Finserv also saw their shares dip by −2.28% and −2.04% respectively. The auto sector also contributed to the downside, with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (−2.67%), Bajaj Auto (−2.11%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (−2.08%) experiencing notable declines.
Top Movers: Bharti Airtel and Sun Pharma Lead Gains
