Sovereign AI: EMEA Enterprises’ Structural Imperative
By ThePip Desk
Cognizant-Domyn partnership addresses EMEA enterprises’ need for sovereign AI, enabling secure, compliant AI adoption amidst strict data regulations.
Cognizant and Domyn have forged a strategic partnership to deliver sovereign AI infrastructure across the EMEA region, directly addressing the escalating imperative for regulated enterprises to adopt artificial intelligence without compromising data sovereignty or stringent compliance standards. This collaboration marks a significant market response to the structural tension between rapid AI innovation and national data governance requirements, particularly within Europe’s highly regulated sectors.
The core challenge for financial institutions and other compliance-heavy organizations in Europe is the need for AI solutions that keep sensitive data within customer-controlled environments. Manoj Mehta, President for EMEA at Cognizant, emphasized that organizations operating under European regulatory frameworks demand transformative AI capabilities while maintaining absolute control over their data, security, and adherence to local laws.
This demand has catalyzed the rise of ‘sovereign AI’ — a model ensuring that AI systems, and the data they process, remain strictly within national borders or customer-defined private infrastructure. Domyn provides the foundational layer for this paradigm, offering core infrastructure and Large Language Models (LLMs) designed for secure, on-premises or private cloud deployments.
Cognizant, acting as the global system integrator, will manage the critical application layer, oversee integration processes, and drive domain-specific execution. Their role extends to training Domyn’s foundational models, enabling the development of tailored Smaller, industry-specific models (SLMs), alongside robust data pipeline construction, cleansing, and the creation of bespoke enterprise applications.
The joint go-to-market strategy will initially target key regions, including the UK, Ireland, the DACH region, Northern and Southern Europe, and the Middle East. This targeted approach underscores a recognition that regulatory landscapes and data governance priorities can vary significantly even within the broader EMEA scope, necessitating localized, compliant AI deployments.
Uljan Sharka, CEO of Domyn, noted that the next phase of AI adoption in Europe will be defined by organizations that retain direct ownership and control over their core intelligence. This partnership significantly expands Domyn’s reach among complex enterprise clients, while aligning with Cognizant’s broader AI strategy, supported by over 60 patents and dedicated AI labs in San Francisco and Bengaluru, signaling a commitment to this evolving market structure.
The collaboration between Cognizant and Domyn illustrates a fundamental shift in how enterprises, particularly those in highly regulated sectors, will engage with artificial intelligence moving forward. It solidifies the understanding that for AI to achieve its transformative potential in these environments, it must first meet the non-negotiable standards of data sovereignty and regulatory compliance, establishing a new baseline for enterprise AI adoption across EMEA.
