India’s major ports achieved a significant milestone in the fiscal year 2025-26, successfully handling over 915 million tonnes of cargo, according to recent reports.
This performance not only exceeded the annual target set for these ports but also marked a robust 7.06 percent increase compared to the previous year’s figures, demonstrating substantial growth in the sector.
The achievement reflects enhanced operational efficiency and a consistent upward trajectory in cargo handling capabilities across the major ports. Furthermore, the sector has seen a notable rise in investment in capital expenditure, contributing to its improved performance.
Sarbananda Sonowal noted that this milestone underscores the effectiveness of strategic initiatives aimed at boosting the capacity and productivity of India’s port infrastructure.
