Strong macroeconomic fundamentals and targeted policy interventions are helping cushion India against global headwinds, according to the Reserve Bank of India. The central bank noted in its latest bulletin that the Indian economy continues to demonstrate strength, supported by high-frequency indicators across the industry and services sectors despite ongoing international challenges.

The Reserve Bank of India highlighted that geopolitical frictions in West Asia and supply chain disruptions have increased inflationary pressures globally. These factors have prompted central banks in other nations to raise policy rates. Concerns regarding fiscal sustainability and financial stability have also emerged due to elevated sovereign bond yields in advanced economies.

Domestically, merchandise exports recorded double-digit growth during the first six months of 2026-27, which helped narrow the trade deficit. Foreign direct investment, external commercial borrowings, and remittance flows strengthened in August. The Reserve Bank also noted that GDP growth remains supported by sustained domestic demand and services, even though the country is a net energy importer.

The rupee showed a depreciating bias in late September due to a stronger US dollar and higher crude oil prices. However, the currency appreciated in mid-October following measures taken by the Reserve Bank to curb speculative dollar demand. Additionally, foreign direct investment inflows in August were primarily directed toward the manufacturing, communication, and miscellaneous services sectors.
